Supporting Current & Former Foster Youth in LA

Since April of 2019, have been fortunate enough to serve as a co-mentor with Stepping Forward LA (SFLA) and share guidance, support, love, and laughs with current and former foster youth around Los Angeles.

These teens and young adults are some of the most wise, hilarious and genuine people I know. We have learned so much from each other thanks to through deep conversations on long car rides, playing improv games in backyards, or just simply watching the waves crash onto the beach.

Before social distancing guidelines, mentors and mentees would gather every month at the Big House for 'First Saturdays', where we would laugh and learn from other through games, cooking meals together, celebrating birthdays and more. These last few months, I have been keeping in touch with my mentees over the phone and have been lucky enough to see a few them (6 feet apart) when dropping off "First Saturday" packages, stuffed with treats, journals, art supplies and more.

Until it is safe to gather in person again, I am excited and grateful to be helping SFLA develop an online learning curriculum for the young adults! I'll be teaching online classes on everything from buying groceries on a budget, learning Canva, meditation, and how to trick yourself into drinking more water!

I am personally going to match the first $250 that is raised in support of our program! I love this community and these kids so much. They make LA feel like home, and I am committed to growing with them through all of the ups and downs that lie ahead. Any support you can give means the absolute world to us.
